Abstract
This imagery is a 10m, four-band multispectral, cloud-minimised mosaic of SPOT 5 satellite scenes over Chatham Islands captured early-2012.
Purpose
This imagery is used by the Land Use Carbon Analysis System (LUCAS) at the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment to map and quantify changes in New Zealand land use. This information is used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and removals for the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector toward meeting our international reporting obligations under the Kyoto Protocol and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

All-of-NZ-Government Licensing - Eligible agencies include central (Crown), regional and local government, universities and CRIs. Agencies contracted to do the work of any of these bodies may be granted limited access at the discretion of Airbus DS, Australia. Distributed for use under the terms and conditions of the SPOT End User Licence Agreement.
Component SPOT 5 scenes were ortho-rectified to CITM2000 Chatham Islands Transverse Mercator using the ERDAS IMAGINE AutoSync module. Ellipsoidal heights were taken from the Landcare Research 15m digital elevation model (DEM) and aerial orthophotography was used for horizontal reference. Bands: 1 (Green), 2 (Red), 3 (NIR), 4 (SWIR) Note: Band 4 (SWIR) pan-sharpened to 10m from nominal 20m. Pan-sharpening, atmospheric correction, BRDF correction, cloud-clearing, date-prioritising and cloud-minimised mosaicking completed by Landcare Research NZ.
