Abstract
This imagery is 2.5m, three-band (B, G, R) cloud-minimised mosaics of SPOT 5 satellite scenes over mainland New Zealand. Note that the blue band is artificial.
Purpose
This imagery is used by the Land Use Carbon Analysis System (LUCAS) at the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment to map and quantify changes in New Zealand land use. This information is used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and removals for the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector toward meeting our international reporting obligations under the Kyoto Protocol and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
All-of-NZ-Government Licensing - Eligible agencies include central (Crown), regional and local government, universities and CRIs. Agencies contracted to do the work of any of these bodies may be granted limited access at the discretion of Airbus DS, Australia. Distributed for use under the terms and conditions of the SPOTMaps End User Licence Agreement.
Imagery acquired by the SPOT 5 sensor (2.5m Pan, 10m G, R, NIR, 20m SWIR). Scene segments have been orthorectified to the New Zealand Transverse Mercator Geodetic Datum 2000 (NZTM 2000) coordinate system. The multispectral imagery was pan sharpened to create a 2.5m colour image for each segment at the sensor processing level. This 2.5m imagery was imported into Pixel Factory for the orthorectification and mosaicing. Aerial ortho-photography provided by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) was used for the horizontal ground control. The Landcare Research 15m DEM in NZTM projection provided elevation information. The segments were merged to create a seamless mosaic in which cloud cover was minimised. The segments were contrast matched to reduce join lines and create an 8-bit RGB (pseudo natural colour) image. This mosaic is delivered in tiles which equate to the NZTM 1:50k map sheet tiles.
